The Opportunity

We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Farnborough; the position will report into the Projects and Design Team Manager. Please note: we are unable to support sponsorship for this position, therefore applicants must have the right to work in the UK with no visa restrictions. As a Junior Mechanical Engineer you will play a key role in supporting the research, development, and implementation of high temperature and nuclear imaging products. Working alongside a multidisciplined team, you will be responsible for supporting projects from conception to completion. We are looking for a junior engineer eager to apply their knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while gaining hands‑on experience. Having some relevant industry work experience would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and analysing mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to ensure product functionality and efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical, and quality assurance, to support product development
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for project updates
  • Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical designs
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions
  • Perform material selection and cost analysis
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies
  • Assist in process improvement and problem-solving initiatives
  • Assist with design reviews with internal and external customers
  • Creating sketches, outline drawings, detail drawings and assembly drawings
  • Design for manufacture, ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet required industry standards
  • Creating accurate part and assembly models
  • Prepare Technical Construction Files for product compliance verification
  • Design verification and functional testing
  • Generating reports, calculations, test procedures, manuals, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes)

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified to a minimum degree level in relevant field or relevant experience
  • Experience of mechanical design and development using 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably Solidworks and AutoCAD)
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to review and work with stakeholders to prioritise workload of self
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
  • Experience of preparing cost sheets for Sales Enquiries
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of RoHS
  • Knowledge of drawing standards including BS8888
