A growing financial services company, with a global presence, is at a pivotal point in its data transformation journey. Earlier this year, a senior data leader was appointed to spearhead this transformation. With the technology stack and investment firmly in place, the focus is now on maximising potential through exceptional people and processes.

This ambitious company is looking for committed, hardworking individuals ready to join an exciting journey. With high potential for ownership and impact, these roles offer a rare opportunity to shape the company’s data capabilities at a foundational level. Each role starts as hands-on with elements of BAU but will evolve over time to become more strategic and project-focused as teams grow. Strong leadership skills are crucial, as you will soon be responsible for growing and developing your own team.

If you’re ready to take ownership, make an impact, and help drive data excellence, this is the perfect time to get on board. We are looking for proactive go-getters who are eager to take full ownership of their roles and shape them into something truly impactful. These are remote roles with office presence likely to be weekly or bi-weekly. Interviewing will start mid-December via a remote process.

Role Overview

As the Head of Data Engineering Manager, you will design, develop, and scale the company’s data infrastructure, ensuring it supports business growth and delivers measurable value. Reporting directly to the senior data leader, you will lead a hands-on team, utilising the Azure Data Stack, including Synapse, to develop robust pipelines and solutions. Collaborating with teams across Data Governance and BI, you will ensure that data engineering efforts align seamlessly with the company’s broader data strategy. A key part of your role will also involve implementing controls and mitigating risks, which makes financial services experience essential.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, is ready to take the lead, and is excited about making a tangible impact in a high-growth environment. We want someone who’s ready to make the role their own and isn’t afraid to step forward with new ideas and strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a data engineering strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Utilise the Azure Data Stack (including Synapse) to build scalable, secure, and efficient data pipelines and architecture.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Data Engineering team, ensuring a collaborative and results-driven environment.
  • Ensure robust controls and processes are in place to mitigate risks and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Partner with BI and Data Governance teams to ensure data availability, integrity, and quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data infrastructure to enable advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in a senior Data Engineering role, ideally within financial services or a similar regulated environment.
  • Strong expertise in Azure Data Stack, including Synapse, cloud platforms, and programming languages like Python, Java, or SQL.
  • Experience implementing controls and managing risks within a data infrastructure.
  • A hands-on approach combined with the ability to scale and lead high-performing teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a proactive and adaptable mindset.

This is your chance to step into a transformative role and leave a lasting impact on a company at the forefront of data innovation. If you’re ambitious, proactive, and ready to own your success, we want to hear from you.
