Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Garment Technologist to join our London team and ensure our product meets the required standard of quality, fit and functionality, whilst adhering to the design teams’ vision, across all our ready-to-wear and accessories collections. Working closely with Design, Product Development, Production, Sales and external manufacturing partners, you will take ownership of all technical aspects including sampling, fitting, pattern amends, grading, and quality control.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience within garment technology and quality, excellent collaboration and organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend regular meetings with Design and Product Development to review raw materials and processes used in each new season.
- Highlight any potential issues for raw materials used on collection, offer solutions.
- Identifying and conduct external raw material and product testing where necessary.
- Feedback to Head of Product and Production Manager on factory capabilities and cost implication in order to facilitate factory allocation and planning.
- Launching patterns and pattern amends with pattern cutters and factories.
- In conjunction with Product Development, creating detailed technical packs for new styles.
- Assessing all new SMS and PP samples entering the business, including detailed measuring.
- Arranging and leading all fit sessions.
- Recording relevant fit notes and photographs/videos.
- With Head of Product and Production Manager, decide how to move forward on each style at pre-production.
- Creation of sample comments, communicating clearly to factories and answering any follow-up queries.
- Creating graded specs for all styles, including grading for placement of any decorative aspect of the garment.
- Checking of bulk production, advising Production Manager of any fit or quality issues.
- Requesting AQL reporting where necessary, approval of styles requiring this process.
- Working with team and factories to successfully and quickly resolve any issues with product of factories.
- Following product critical path to ensure styles are sealed for bulk production in line with required dates, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Daily updating of Critical Path for all production styles.
- Communicate amendments and updates with Design, Product Development, and Sales.
- Collaborate with management and manufacturers to resolve production challenges promptly to avoid delays.
- Develop and nurture strong, long-term factory relationships.
- Management of returns process and analysis of reporting to be presented to wider team.
- Random bulk production checks in store/warehouse.
Other:
- Strive for continual process improvement within Technology and across departments to support long-term business growth.
- Regular assessment of fit and finishings, updating brand “standards” and implementation across all product.
- Input into Supplier Manual.
- Managing internal pattern archive.
- Recruitment of fit models.
- Maintain strong cross-functional communication to ensure alignment between Design, Product Development, Production, and Sales.
- Manage any invoices in line with agreed terms.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years experience in a Garment Technologist role within women’s fashion/garment production industry.
- Experience of ready to wear using print and decorative embellishment.
- Strong understanding of seasonal production cycles.
- Experience working directly with international factories and suppliers.
- Strong grading and pattern cutting knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of garment manufacturing legislation, including compliance standards.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive and solution-focused mindset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Ability to travel to factories.
