Role – Electrical Estimator (Specialist)
Location: Manchester
A leading organisation within the energy sector is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join them on a 12-month contract, starting immediately.
Scope of Work
- Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates for energy infrastructure projects, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, and renewable generation assets.
- Analyse technical drawings, specifications, schematics, and project documentation to produce accurate material, labour, and subcontractor cost assessments.
- Develop tender packages, bills of quantities (BoQs), pricing schedules, and cost breakdown structures for electrical systems and associated installation works.
- Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams to validate design assumptions, clarify technical requirements, and optimise cost efficiencies.
- Engage with electrical suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations, assess technical compliance, and evaluate commercial suitability.
- Support bid submissions by preparing cost summaries, risk assessments, exclusions, assumptions, and value‑engineering proposals.
- Conduct site visits where required to assess existing electrical infrastructure, installation conditions, and project risks impacting cost.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of market pricing, electrical installation methodologies, and relevant industry standards.
- Assist with handover to delivery teams, ensuring all estimates, clarifications, and design information are fully documented and understood.
Experience to be Considered
- Must have experience working for an electrical contractor, ideally within the power, utilities, or renewable energy sectors.
- Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator — ideally on BESS, Solar PV, Transmission/Distribution, or Substation projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles, installation practices, and system components such as switchgear, transformers, inverters, protection systems, cabling, and control equipment.
- Familiarity with grid‑connected energy systems, BESS architecture, single‑line diagrams (SLDs), and electrical interface requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications to produce accurate cost estimates.
- Experience liaising with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, procurement functions, and specialist subcontractors.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with a detail‑driven and commercially aware approach.
