Mint Selection are partnered with a leading renewables IPP that are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager, responsible for the technical management and day-to-day project execution management of a team of project engineers. The Senior Process Safety Engineer is integral to ensuring that process safety risks are identified, understood, and managed through all phases of project development. Reporting to the Lead Process Safety Engineer functionally, and to the assigned Project Engineering Manager(s) operationally, the successful candidate shall work across design, implementation, operational support and optimisation across the business, from inception to operation on a portfolio of Gas Peaker, BESS projects and other technologies. The Senior Process Safety Engineer will apply deep technical knowledge in process safety engineering, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), and functional safety. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the UK’s energy transition, ensuring our low‑carbon assets meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, specification and requisitioning of Gas Peaker and BESS plants.
- Define and manage the process safety deliverables plan for each project phase, aligned with the company’s Process Safety Management System (PSMS) and Functional Safety Management System (FSMS).
- Lead process safety assurance of design contractors’ and consultants’ deliverables, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, internal standards, and good engineering practice.
- Support the Engineering and project development teams in developing designs and specifications and evaluating contractors for future Gas Peaker and BESS plants.
- Undertake an Owners Engineer role providing review of design work undertaken by contractors for all projects constructed by the team, in particular:
- Review and participation in safety studies for project designs
- Review of contractor’s safety case, analysis, designs and calculations
- Review of technology offers.
Skills
- Excellent knowledge of process plant design and construction and process safety.
- Understanding of safety and legislative requirements of Gas Peaker and BESS plants:
- Use of industry standards including NFPA, API, IGEM UK regulatory frameworks (e.g. GSMR, PSR, DSEAR, PUWER, CDM) and HSE guidance.
- Inherent Safety Design and HAZID
- HAZOP and E‑HAZOP
- LOPA and functional safety studies to IEC61511 and IEC61508.
Development Opportunities
Working with a dynamic team designing and constructing cutting edge generation plants will provide the successful candidate with extremely relevant real‑world project experience. Longer term, the successful candidate can expect to work on the delivery of various grid‑balancing projects including the delivery of GW scale hydrogen electrolysis projects.
