Reporting to the Engineering Director and assigned Project Manager, this role will be responsible for managing the delivery of engineering across a portfolio of battery energy storage and gas peaking projects from the financial investment decision through detailed design, construction and operations. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for the technical management and day-to-day project execution management of a team of project engineers.
To deliver this role, the Engineering Manager shall have the following responsibilities:
1. Design co-ordination:

Design co-ordinator across multiple projects – ensure designers submit designs on time

Interface management – Ensure design interfaces are captured and managed

Drafting of employer’s requirements / specifications for projects

Ensure design deliverables from designers allow the project to be delivered on budget
-
Identify, evaluate and implement value engineering and cost reduction opportunities during design and construction

Co-ordinate design decisions across projects to ensure consistency and transfer of knowledge between projects
2. Provide input to the Pre-FID design and budgeting process, managed by the Engineering Director
3. Project Engineering:
Act as senior project engineer on complex projects

Co-ordinate the design inputs from all contractors responsible for design on site

Proactively identify design issues early and resolve these issues or escalate to the head of engineering

Lead design co-ordination meetings between all contractors responsible for design

Manage design register and provide regular updates to the project team

Manage contractors’ due dates and ensuring contractors deliver their required design deliverables correctly and on time

Manage all drawings and calculations required for the project

Ensure correct and latest revisions of all drawings and calculations are used by all contractors in the design, development and construction of the project.

Communicating Design Information between Contractors and to Site Team

Regular site visits to review design developments with site based team and to assist project management team in any design related issues that arise during construction
Manage the Technical Query process and contribute to the resolution of TQ process with project engineers
4. Management:

Manage the technical output of a team of project engineers

Manage project engineers delivering on simpler projects
Useful Additional Skills
In addition to the main duties, the Engineering Manager shall have some or all of the following skills:

Knowledge of comparable plant construction

Understanding of mechanical plant/piping systems OR HV electrical infrastructure design and construction

AutoCAD 2D / 3D CAD Design

Understanding of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer requirements

Experience
10+ years within a renewables or energy generation environment (e.g. wind, gas peaking plants, energy storage, or comparable) including supporting the construction phase. At this level, site experience is expected.
Development Opportunities
Working with a dynamic team constructing cutting edge energy plants will provide the successful candidate with extremely relevant real-world project experience. Longer term the successful candidate can expect to work across a portfolio of battery energy storage and gas peaking projects from the financial investment decision through detailed design, construction and operations. There is also the potential for assignment to hydrogen generation and pumped storage hydro projects.
