A major UK energy infrastructure developer is looking to appoint a Grid Connection Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale transmission and substation connection projects across the UK. This is a client-side delivery role focused on overseeing major HV infrastructure works, including 400/275kV connections within National Grid / SSE substations. The successful individual will act as the client representative across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage planning and design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
The position sits within a growing Grid Delivery function and offers significant exposure to critical UK energy infrastructure projects. The development pipeline is substantial, with the business having already delivered some of Europe’s largest battery storage projects and targeting c.7GW of UK infrastructure projects (~£7bn capex) by 2030, alongside hydrogen, pumped storage, and CCS-enabled thermal developments.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead delivery of HV substation and grid connection projects on behalf of the client
- Manage interfaces with National Grid, NESO, DNOs, ICPs, contractors, and consultants
- Oversee design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover activities
- Drive programme performance, challenge delays, and ensure efficient project progression
- Review and approve technical documentation, designs, and contractor deliverables
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, HV safety requirements, and industry standards
- Monitor contractor performance, site progress, project risks, and reporting metrics
- Support procurement activities, tender evaluations, and contract administration
- Lead stakeholder meetings, site inspections, and project governance activities
- Proven delivery experience across HV substation or transmission projects (132kV+)
- Strong understanding of grid connection processes and TSO/DNO interfaces
- Experience within client-side, EPC, principal contractor, or Owner’s Engineer environments
- Exposure to National Grid infrastructure, frameworks, or transmission projects
- Experience delivering full schemes such as substations, SGTs, or bay extensions
- Strong stakeholder management and contractor coordination capability
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred
- APM / PRINCE2 / PMP qualifications beneficial
