Following the successful development of a substantial UK pipeline of utility-scale renewable energy projects, our client is entering an exciting period of growth as they transition from developer to long-term owner and operator of assets.

With multiple Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects progressing towards construction, they are now looking to appoint a Senior Project Manager to take ownership of projects during the critical period between Ready-to-Build (RTB) and Final Investment Decision (FID). This is a strategic client-side position, responsible for driving projects through commercialisation, coordinating internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring every project is fully prepared for investment approval and successful execution. The role offers significant exposure to senior leadership and will play a key part in shaping how projects are delivered across an expanding UK portfolio.

The Opportunity

As Senior Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for managing utility-scale renewable energy projects through the final development and commercialisation phase, leading all activities required to reach FID. Working across technical, commercial and financial disciplines, you will ensure projects are fully de-risked, commercially robust and investment-ready, before handing them into the delivery team for construction.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Lead projects through the critical RTB to FID phase, ensuring programme, budget and risk remain under control.
  • Act as the central point of coordination across engineering, development, grid, land, legal, procurement, finance and commercial teams.
  • Drive project governance, reporting and decision-making through to investment approval.
  • Manage key project risks and ensure mitigation strategies are implemented across all workstreams.
  • Lead contractor engagement, procurement strategy and commercial negotiations ahead of construction.
  • Coordinate lender due diligence, technical advisers, insurers and external consultants during project financing.
  • Prepare projects for successful handover into execution, ensuring construction readiness is achieved.
  • Help establish best practice project management processes as the organisation scales its delivery capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of projects from Ready-to-Build through to Final Investment Decision.
  • Develop and manage integrated project programmes, budgets and delivery plans.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary internal teams and external advisers throughout the commercialisation process.
  • Lead project governance, reporting, risk management and stakeholder communication.
  • Manage procurement activities, EPC engagement and contract negotiation alongside commercial teams.
  • Support project financing by managing lender interfaces, technical due diligence and investment requirements.
  • Ensure all technical, commercial and contractual milestones are achieved ahead of FID.
  • Drive collaboration across development, engineering, finance, legal, procurement and construction functions.
  • Oversee project readiness for execution before transitioning into the construction delivery phase.

About You

You'll ideally bring:

  • Proven experience managing large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects through development, commercialisation or pre-construction.
  • A strong understanding of the lifecycle of utility-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS) or wider energy infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading complex multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with exposure to EPC procurement, contracting strategies and project governance.
  • Experience supporting projects through investment approval, project finance or lender due diligence would be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent programme management, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to make informed decisions, manage competing priorities and drive projects to key commercial milestones.
