Commercial Manager sought to deliver a cross-technology portfolio of clean energy projects from early-stage supply chain engagement through procurement, execution and final settlement. This role will oversee a portfolio of projects ranging £50m-£400m individual value, responsible for a team of Quantity Surveyors.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the contract administration and cost management resources within the project team.
- Develop cost and contract procedures for the project and upskill/develop existing staff to ensure compliance and well administered contracts.
- Oversee development and maintenance of a project cost plan throughout the project lifecycle.
- Undertake monthly cost assessments against contractor progress and programme, including assessment of KPI performance metrics and pain/gainshare assessment.
- Ensure that each contract package documentation is of the right quality and that bidders provide adequate insurances, bonds, guarantees complying with all applicable codes or other requirements as required by the contracts or laws including maintaining records.
- Develop and manage internal cost recording, reporting and contract compliance.
- Manage the change control procedure, control of all documentation and correspondence relating to change.
- Maintain the project risk & opportunity register including assessing the cost impact of each item with a particular focus on identifying and delivering efficiencies in project delivery.
Desired experience:
- Principal Contractor Experience (Tier 1 / Tier 2) ideally delivering into an IPP, Corporate or Fund client.
- Experience managing packages with values greater than £50m (ideal range between £50-£300m).
- Knowledge of the Energy & Power sector important. Broader infrastructure experience valuable but a good proportion of experience related to energy is preferred.
- Experience running several high value projects simultaneously.
- Exposure through the full life cycle of a major infrastructure project (more than one project advantageous).
- Experience in forming and administering NEC contracts.
- A collaborative approach with project partners and appreciation for long-term supply chain engagement.
- Experience in Scope preparation, evaluation, contract formation/closure, administration and management through execution & build, settlement / financial accounts.
- Good leadership skills including leading and developing a Commercial team and Quantity Surveyors. Able to support a team and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Hands on can-do attitude. Willing to roll your sleeves up and get into the detail. Enjoy driving commercial negotiations.
- Commercially minded individual with a strong appreciation for risk and value optimisation.
- UK experience critical; international project experience valuable.
- A good reputation within the construction industry.
