A major renewable infrastructure business is entering an ambitious new phase of growth following significant long-term investment and a strategic shift towards asset ownership, greenfield development and infrastructure expansion.
With an established operational portfolio and over a decade of experience delivering and operating anaerobic digestion and biomethane assets, the business is now investing heavily in its Projects function to support a growing pipeline of development, optimisation and decarbonisation initiatives across the UK. This is a key leadership appointment within that growth journey.
The Opportunity
As Head of Project Development, you will lead projects through the front end of the lifecycle - taking opportunities from early-stage concept through planning, commercial structuring and development into shovel-ready projects. You will work closely with senior leadership, business development, engineering and construction teams to shape commercially viable renewable infrastructure projects across a varied and evolving portfolio. The role offers genuine strategic influence and the opportunity to help shape both projects and the wider function as the business scales.
Projects currently include:
- Greenfield anaerobic digestion and biomethane developments
- Site upgrades and optimisation works
- Carbon capture and COâ‚‚ utilisation initiatives
- Gas injection and hub-based infrastructure projects
- Alternative feedstock strategies
- Acquisition integration and expansion programmes
- New operational and engineering infrastructure
Project values range from smaller enhancement works through to major infrastructure developments of circa £30m.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development activities from concept through to FID
- Assess site feasibility and technical viability
- Support land acquisition and planning strategy
- Coordinate environmental permitting activities
- Define early-stage project specifications and delivery strategies
- Develop commercially viable business cases and project models
- Manage stakeholder engagement across regulators, landowners, EPCs, consultants and local authorities
- Support budgeting, financing and commercial structuring activities
- Drive programme progress while balancing technical, operational and commercial considerations
- Provide clear reporting and governance to senior leadership and investors
Candidate Profile
We are interested in experienced project development professionals who combine technical credibility with commercial pragmatism and strong stakeholder management capability. Suitable backgrounds may include:
- Anaerobic digestion / biogas / biomethane
- Energy from waste
- Renewable infrastructure
- Utilities or distributed energy
- Process plant or environmental infrastructure
- Industrial or rural infrastructure projects
You are likely to have experience of:
- Multidisciplinary infrastructure or process projects
- Client-side or principal contractor environments
- Planning and permitting complexity
- Contractor and consultant management
- Community and stakeholder engagement
- Commercially driven project delivery
- Managing multiple projects and interfaces simultaneously
