Mint Selection has partnered with a leading interconnector to recruit an HVDC Engineer to support the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of HVDC cable systems. As part of the wider business, the role will also provide support to both converter station and cable maintenance teams. It is ideal for engineers with a strong foundation in electrical/mechanical engineering and a keen interest in HV transmission systems. The role focuses on supporting the safe, reliable, and commercially optimised operation of the HVDC interconnector, including its cable systems, converter stations, and associated infrastructure. The role is embedded in the engineering function and interfaces with contractors, control centres, connected TSO’s, and internal teams across the UK and France.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Contractor Support: Support day-to-day management of O&M contractors to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance of HVDC cable systems. Participate in site inspections, audits, and reviews of contractor performance against KPIs and warranties.
- Asset Management & Fault Response: Assist in maintaining a robust spares strategy and fault rectification plans. Support incident investigations and root cause analysis for operational or safety events via our maintenance contractors. Ensure the upkeep of asset registers and maintenance logs.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain and update operational documentation, including method statements, risk assessments, operational procedures, and protocols. Support compliance with relevant regulations (such as NIS) and support gaining accreditations (such as ISO’s) as required by the business. Review the company's Document Control process and maintain records of test results, inspection logs, routine and ad-hoc maintenance activities.
- Technical Support & Design Review: Assist in reviewing HVDC cable system and associated component designs, including protection and monitoring systems, in-tunnel jointing capability, and providing recommendations to improve where identified. Provide engineering support to business-critical project delivery, working with Technical Experts to ensure new designs meet business requirements and are delivered to high-quality standards. Working with the wider technical team, prepare technical reports and documentation for internal reviews and external stakeholders as required.
- Health & Safety: Employees are expected to take reasonable care for their own health and safety, as well as that of others, and are required to participate in any health and safety training provided by the employer and promptly report any health and safety concerns to the HSQE Manager or HSQE Coordinator.
Requirements
- Familiarity with HVDC systems or high voltage transmission assets, preferably having completed a graduate scheme (or equivalent) in the energy industry.
- Basic knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements for HVAC and HVDC cables and associated systems.
- Good understanding of the importance of HVDC interconnectors in the wider energy mix.
- Experience of monitoring contractors and other external stakeholders.
