Development Manager, Grid-Scale Storage and Flexibility

London, UK (4 days a week in the office)

Our client develops, builds, owns and operates grid-scale battery storage and flexible generation across the UK. Their assets keep the system balanced as more wind and solar comes onto the grid, and they’re always open to hearing from strong Development Managers in London. You’d take large, transmission-scale projects through consent, grid and land towards financial close, then hand them to an in-house team that builds and runs them.

The Company

An established, investor-backed IPP with a multi-GW operational and under-construction portfolio and a deep UK pipeline behind it. Development, engineering, construction, finance and operations all sit under one roof. So you work next to the people who’ll fund and build your projects, and you get to see them energised.

The culture is office-led and commercially sharp. Development teams are lean, ownership is high and decisions get made quickly, with senior leaders in the room. They back people who take initiative and step up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead utility-scale storage and flexible generation projects through planning, grid, land and environmental workstreams to Ready-to-Build.
  • Support the path to FID, coordinating consultants, legal, engineering and investment teams.
  • Spot development risk early and resolve it before it costs time or capital.
  • Support acquisitions and due diligence on third-party projects as opportunities come up.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 4+ years of UK development experience on utility-scale BESS, solar, wind or thermal projects, ideally ones that have reached consent or construction. Open to more senior profiles.
  • Hands-on ownership of planning (TCPA or DCO), grid connections (DNO or transmission) and land agreements.
  • Exposure to late-stage work such as discharge of conditions, RTB or investment committee papers is a strong plus.
  • Confidence with project economics and running several consultants and internal specialists at once.
  • A strong wind or solar developer with real grid and planning depth is worth a conversation, even without storage on the CV.
  • Competitive base salary plus annual bonus.
  • Office-led working, 4 days a week in London, with site visits as projects need them.
  • Daily exposure to senior leadership and in-house engineering, finance and operations teams.
