About the role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Accounts Receivable to join our busy Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys taking ownership, building strong customer relationships and ensuring effective debt collection while maintaining excellent service.

Reporting into the Finance function, you will be responsible for managing the sales ledger and credit control processes, ensuring invoices are raised accurately and payments are collected promptly. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation to maintain accurate customer accounts, resolve queries and support continuous improvement within the finance team.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the sales ledger, ensuring all transactions are accurate, complete and processed in a timely manner.
  • Raise and process sales invoices accurately, coordinating both scheduled and ad hoc billing activities.
  • Allocate and reconcile customer payments, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Monitor and clear unallocated cash, ensuring receipts are applied to the correct customer accounts.
  • Proactively manage outstanding debt, following up overdue accounts and reducing aged debt balances.
  • Contact customers by telephone and email to secure payment, agree payment arrangements and maintain positive relationships.
  • Investigate and resolve invoice, payment and account queries efficiently.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk debt issues and work with senior finance colleagues to agree appropriate recovery actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of customer communications, payment plans and collection activity.
  • Prepare aged debt reports and provide regular updates on collection performance and risk areas.
  • Support improvements to credit control processes and wider finance operations.
  • Undertake cash handling and collection duties in line with procedures.
  • Provide support and cover across the finance team when required.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, financial controls and procedures.

About you

You will be an experienced credit control or accounts receivable professional with a proven track record of managing customer accounts and collecting debt effectively. You will be highly organised, detail-oriented and confident communicating with customers at all levels.
You’ll be comfortable working independently, able to prioritise your workload and committed to delivering excellent service while achieving collection targets.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in Credit Control, Accounts Receivable or a similar finance role.
  • Experience managing a sales ledger and raising sales invoices.
  • Strong debt collection experience, including managing aged debt and resolving payment issues.
  • Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence communicating by telephone.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, manage deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience using finance/accounting systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.

What we offer
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative finance team where you can make a real impact. You’ll play a key role in maintaining healthy cash flow, managing customer relationships and driving improvements across the accounts receivable and credit control function.
If you’re an organised, proactive finance professional who enjoys ownership and problem-solving, we’d love to hear from you.
