MINO Process Control Limited is at the cutting edge of engineering process control. Based near Wimborne in Dorset, we design, engineer, build and commission process control software for the world’s metals processing industries. Our portfolio of customers includes some of the biggest names in metals production across the world.

Our parent company MINO S.p.a. based in northern Italy, designs, builds and installs rolling mill machines for producing aluminium, copper and steel, ranging from large scale green-field projects to individual revamp upgrades. We provide the process control software that controls these machines. MINO has offices in Alessandria and Vicenza, Italy, Beijing and Tianjin, China, Pittsburgh, USA and Wimborne, UK, with 300 employees in total. MINO Process Control currently has 12 employees, engineers with backgrounds in electrical, mechanical and software systems. Together we form an expert team of process engineers, who produce the high spec, specialised software technology required for the optimal control of a modern rolling mill.

We are looking to enhance our team with bright, enthusiastic new talent - people who will engage in the work that we do, and take it to the next level. Prospective candidates will have attained a relevant honours degree with a minimum grade of an upper second-class honours (2:1). Experience in Matlab/Simulink, control theory, software engineering, and other related engineering disciplines will be an advantage. Our customers are international - we currently have projects in China, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, USA, Mexico, and therefore, prospective candidates must be willing and able to travel.

Overall objectives
  • To become a fully capable and active member of the MINO Process Control engineering team, able to take on responsibilities in process control engineering for our rolling mill projects.
  • To develop knowledge, learning and experience in the processes of thickness and flatness control for aluminium, copper and steel rolling mills.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process control engineering for rolling mill thickness and flatness control.
  • Use of Matlab and Simulink to run and develop process simulation models.
  • Development and testing of process control software algorithms.
  • Commissioning and tuning of the process control system at customers’ sites.
  • Analysis and optimisation of on-site control performance.
  • Liaising with other members of the relevant projects’ teams, within MPC and the wider MINO group of companies.
Training and Supervision
  • Supervision and reviews will be provided by the Line Manager as appropriate.
  • Training will be given during the course of general day to day activities and by attending customers’ sites alongside experienced MPC engineers.
  • Encouragement will be given for involvement in further training opportunities, from time to time, outside of MPC in order to enhance the Process Engineer’s effectiveness in the role.
  • It will be expected that the Process Engineer will respect and adhere to Health & Safety and first aid training as instructed by the Company.
Person Specification
  • Someone who has achieved or is expecting to achieve a minimum grade of an upper second-class honours (2:1) degree in Control Engineering or similar related subject.
  • Is enthusiastic, dynamic, down to earth and self-motivated, keen to engage with the MPC engineering team.
  • Has the aptitude to learn and develop his/her knowledge of process engineering in particular with regard to the application of software engineering to the control of rolling mill machines.
  • Has demonstrated strong commitment and determination.
  • Is able and willing to travel worldwide for extended periods, has a valid passport and driving licence.
  • Has good communication, organisational and time management skills, a willingness to be flexible; an ability to balance priorities, someone who is willing to learn.
