This position will serve as the Safety Officer for the Minnesota Veterans Home (MVH) in Preston.
The officer is responsible for implementing, promoting, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating safety and health programs.
The role is part‑time, day‑shift, with a schedule of at least 40 hours per two‑week pay period.
The position is initially eligible for a partial employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety Field demonstrating experience in at least two of the following:
- Maintaining and auditing safety programs
- Analyzing workers' compensation data or mitigating risk
- Developing and promoting health and wellness programs
- Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
- One (1) year of experience may be substituted by a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Six (6) months of experience may be substituted by an associate’s degree in the same fields.
- Additional Requirements
- Background check by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) for finalists.
- TB (Mantoux) screening or chest x‑ray prior to employment.
- Reference checks for finalists.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years in the Environmental Health and Safety field as specified above.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of CMS, federal Veterans Administration, or MN Department of Health regulations for healthcare settings.
- Experience in a healthcare or long‑term care facility.
- Experience in conducting inspections, determining compliance, and enforcing OSHA laws.
- Knowledge of security camera systems operation.
- Knowledge of emergency preparedness and management.
