This position is part of the Minnesota Veterans Home’s effort to provide compassionate, person‑centered care for residents in a long‑term nursing facility.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) and provide basic nursing care.
  • Ensure safety and quality of care in accordance with facility standards.
  • Document observations, care activities, and any concerns to maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to residents’ needs promptly and with empathy.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support residents’ highest functional capabilities.
  • Attend scheduled training and competency assessments as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered as a Nursing Assistant with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Nursing Assistant Registry, or willingness and ability to enroll in the Veterans Home’s training course and complete it within four months of hire.
  • Completed a recognized Nursing Assistant training course and competency test but not yet on the MDH Registry, with ability to register within four months of hire.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to follow instructions, and capable of taking clear notes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current registration on the MDH Nursing Assistant Registry.
  • Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Experience providing ADLs in a long‑term care setting.
  • Current certification in CPR and/or BLS through AHA or American Red Cross.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of a Minnesota DHS background check for top finalists.
  • TB screening (Mantoux or chest X‑ray) required before employment.
  • Reference checks on finalists, including documentation of prior job performance.
