The Registered Nurse (RN) serves Minnesota Veterans Homes' residents by delivering skilled nursing within the RN scope of practice as defined in the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, in accordance with current Federal, State and Veteran Administration regulations. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN will provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to sufficiently deliver quality resident centered care. This process provides the guidelines to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the residents.

This position is designated as part-time. The work schedule will include at least 64 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. The position is initially eligible for a full-employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. We offer a creative, fun, collaborative, and stimulating work environment that encourages professional growth.

The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing
  • Effective communication skills sufficient to provide and follow instructions and teach skills to residents
  • Computer skills sufficient to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in or experience with chemical dependency, mental health, and co-occurring disorders
  • Experience working with Veteran population

Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position(s). When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
