Work Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) serves Minnesota Veteran Homes' Residents by delivering skilled nursing within the RN scope of practice as defined in the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, in accordance with current Federal, State and Veteran Administration regulations.

Utilizing the nursing process, the RN will provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to sufficiently deliver quality resident‑centered care. This process provides guidelines to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident(s).

About the Facility

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) – an independent living community for Veterans. The campus spans 128 acres with mature trees, nature trails, and proximity to the Vermillion River, supporting a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our program serves up to 195 Veterans across Hastings and Minneapolis campuses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • If you are not currently licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse, you must be able to obtain licensure by date of hire.
  • Future Registered Nurses within six (6) months of graduating and taking the NCLEX‑RN are encouraged to apply. Contingent job offers may be made upon successful completion of degree and passing of the NCLEX‑RN.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, or ability to be certified by date of hire.
  • Effective communication sufficient to provide and follow instructions and teach skills to residents.
  • Computer skills sufficient to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in or experience with chemical dependency, mental health, and co‑occurring disorders.
  • Experience with Veteran population.

Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X‑Ray is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists.
