This announcement will fill one full-time Office & Administrative Specialist Intermediate / Health Unit Coordinator positon at the Minnesota Veterans Home-Hastings Domicillary. To provide continuity of communication as an office assistant within the nursing department. This position will provide calendars for care conferences, direct phone communication between all disciplines and nursing. It will also organize and schedule outside vendors for phlebotomy and radiology, communicate appointments with residents, be aware and notify members regarding in-house appointments. The position will assist with fax/scanned communication, maintain integration with the electronic medical record. It will also participate in some Health Information type duties including processing physician orders.
The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology is sufficient to understand and accurately enter doctor’s orders, and develop and maintain a variety of medical records, files and forms.
- Skill in transcription is sufficient to enter orders into the electronic health record.
- Effective communication skills are sufficient to prepare written materials, read, explain and interpret a variety of materials, and follow instructions.
- Customer service skills (in person and on the phone) are sufficient to provide effective office support to staff, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and use proper telephone etiquette that demonstrates professionalism and courtesy.
- Data entry skills sufficient to accurately enter doctor’s orders and resident care information.
- Typing/keyboarding, word processing, and database management skills sufficient to compose correspondence, maintain records, files, reports and summaries, create and maintain spreadsheets, and enter and maintain accurate data
- Valid driver's license or the ability to travel regularly between Hastings and Minneapolis Veterans Homes
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a long-term care facility.
- Experience entering doctor's orders into an electronic heath record system.
- Work experience utilizing an electronic health record such as PointClickCare.
- Experience with Excel.
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of the following:
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray is required prior to employment.
- Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
