Caterer/Kitchen Supervisor Catering in Wotton-under-Edge

All staff have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The post holder must undertake the appropriate level of training and is responsible for ensuring that they understand and work within the safeguarding policies of the organisation.

This is not your average catering job. It is a great chance to put your catering qualifications and skills into practice and make an impact far beyond the kitchen. As part of the prison's catering team, you'll be working in a professional industrial kitchen environment, with a good salary, pension and Civil Service benefits including apprenticeship opportunities to 'earn while you learn'.

Unlike traditional restaurant jobs, you won't have to work late into the evening. You'll oversee the work of offenders to prepare and cook quality, nutritional meals for the entire prison, helping them learn new skills and work towards qualifications to increase employment opportunities and reduce reoffending when they leave prison.

Hours and salary

You will work a 37 hour week with shifts that may include hours outside 7am–7pm, Monday to Friday, weekends and public holidays. You will receive a 20% unsocial hours payment in addition to your basic pay, subject to working these hours. All roles can be open to part-time and job-share arrangements subject to business needs, but you will still be required to undertake the full range of shifts. As a new recruit, you will start on the minimum salary. The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is informal, non-contractual flexible working that blends working from your base location, other MoJ sites and/or from home (the role can only be worked in the UK). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with successful candidates and subject to regular review. Nationally advertised roles may be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed on offer and completion of pre-employment checks.

Terms and Conditions

Standard full-time hours are 37 per week excluding unpaid breaks. HMPPS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns where they meet the role and business needs. Applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns will be considered in accordance with HMPPS Flexible Working policy. If you are a current NPS employee, the vacancy may be available on a loan basis for up to 2 years. The Loan/Secondment is subject to approval by the candidate's Business Unit.

Band 4 salary minimum inclusive of 20% unsocial hours allowance - £41,328; Band 4 salary maximum inclusive of 20% unsocial hours allowance - £41,328. Holiday entitlement runs from 1 March. Essential qualifications

• Level 2 certificate in food production within hospitality and catering or equivalent
• Food hygiene certificate Level 2
• Food hygiene certificate Level 3 (intermediate)
• Working towards or holding a Level 3 vocational qualification (e.g., City and Guilds 7061/7062 or NVQ Level 3)

Desirable/Required competencies

• Familiar with current health, safety and hygiene regulations for kitchen work
• Able to demonstrate competency within an industrial kitchen environment
• Able to demonstrate team leadership experience
• Able to communicate confidently in English
• Experience in developing staff and influencing others
• Ability to make effective decisions and work collaboratively
