Job Summary

Prison Officer at HMP Eastwood Park, a Women’s Prison Group facility located in Wotton-under-Edge, Bristol region.

The role supports safeguarding and welfare of women in custody, delivering safety, training and rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and prisoners.
  • Protect the public and support the success of individual prisoners.
  • Act as peacekeeper, counsellor or teacher within the prison environment.
  • Maintain professional relationships and support colleagues as a team.
  • Work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Participate in training, medical, fitness and assessment processes.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years old at employment commencement.
  • Meet Civil Service nationality requirements.
  • Pass medical and fitness assessment and meet eyesight and hearing standards.
  • Acceptable tattoos policy; no offensive or discriminatory designs.
  • Resident in the UK for 3 years if applying to a Category A high‑security prison.
  • Nationality Requirements
  • UK nationals.
  • Nationals of the Republic of Ireland.
  • Nationals of Commonwealth countries with the right to work in the UK.
  • Nationals of EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members with settled or pre‑settled status.
  • Individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020.
  • Turkish nationals and certain family members with the right to work in the Civil Service.
  • Salary and Hours

Initial training: 37 hours a week. Post‑training options: 37 hours (£34,928), 39 hours (£36,816), 41 hours (£39,334) per year.
