Security and Information Directorate (SID) is part of the Service Transformation Group (STG). The Group oversees the building of a strategic vision for modernising and digitising our legacy systems, generating a coordinated plan across the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and its agencies for transformation, and tracking delivery of this transformation. Security and information management are fundamental building blocks of enabling the department to deliver. We have highly skilled experts working collaboratively with the department, Government Security Group, Government Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) profession and other partners to enable the whole of the MoJ to function securely, lawfully and transparently. We identify, manage, and mitigate MoJ's security, data protection and information risks, and provide assurance against those risks. We are also home to the Counter Fraud Centre of Expertise. Part of our mission is to upâskill the department so that security becomes second nature to our people and partners.
Information Services Division (ISD) is responsible for ensuring the MoJ:
- Manages its information so that it knows what is held and where it is held - Knowledge management and Records management.
- Holds its information in compliance with legislation and is accessible - Data protection and freedom of information.
- Is clear who owns the information and that they understand their responsibilities - Knowledge management.
- Holds its information securely - Information assurance.
Disclosure Team leads across the department and its agencies on our obligations under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and aspects of data protection legislation (primarily the right to access for staff and members of the public). We are one of the busiest information access teams in government, overseeing the timely, accurate, legal and proportionate processing of around 8,000 FOI and data protection cases a year.
As a Business Coâordinator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and continuously improving the diverse functions of the Disclosure Team.
Responsibilities, Activities and Duties
- Information Management: Handling requests on topics such as the management of highâprofile offenders, court cases, Legal Aid payments, prison and court security matters, policy formulation, and ministerial work.
- Collaboration: Working closely with various teams across the department, including Communications, Private Office, and the Senior Civil Service, to ensure information is shared appropriately and in compliance with the law.
- Continuous Improvement: Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the team's processes and functions, ensuring they meet the highest standards of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Inbox Management: Oversee the management of our inbox, serving as the central point of contact for the public and the department on FOI and DPA matters. Provide expert advice to a network of over 200 staff across the department.
- Case Handling: Identify and ensure the appropriate handling of sensitive and complex cases.
- Reporting: Contribute to reporting for MoJ Senior Civil Servants. Help manage the department's FOI transparency obligations.
- Communication: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, providing guidance to colleagues and members of the public.
- Flexibility: Work flexibly across all parts of the team, undertaking tasks to meet short deadlines and respond to business needs.
- Guidance, Training and Development: Support the delivery of our expanding programme of guidance and training on FOI, EIR, and GDPR/DPA matters to staff across the department.

Desirable Experience
Working knowledge of Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, Data Protection Act 2018, and the General Data Protection Regulations.

Working Hours and Hybrid Working
The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard fullâtime working hours are 37 hours per week. The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows.
