The role provides support to Safer Custody and Security Intelligence Departments, assisting Safer Custody leads, maintaining administration systems, and analysing information to improve safer custody outcomes. It is a non‑operational, rotational position with no line management responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analyse and evaluate information from a wide range of sources to support decision‑making for safer custody.
  • Take further analysis on IRS and Mercury systems when required.
  • Use data and trend analysis to communicate safer custody issues across the establishment.
  • Produce a monthly Safer Custody Intelligence Report and present it at the Safer Custody Meeting and other security forums.
  • Update line management on local, regional and national safer custody issues and any received intelligence.
  • Keep all relevant intelligence and recording systems current, used appropriately, and train staff in their use.
  • Check incoming safer custody information, assess importance, and recommend responses.
  • Collate and distribute monthly objectives from Safer Custody Departments.
  • Deliver in‑house training on information‑gathering procedures, including induction for new starters.
  • Liaise with other establishments, law‑enforcement groups and external agencies, disseminating intelligence in line with policy.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Safer Custody and Security Managers on trends and issues.
  • Brief and liaise with functional departments on Safer Custody objectives.
  • Organise, produce and maintain accurate records for the area of work.
  • Act as the contact point for all team communications, prioritise and distribute to the relevant person or department.
  • Complete monitoring returns and input requisitions into the finance database for purchases.
  • Coordinate awareness sessions and manage related paperwork.
  • Prepare paperwork for checking by the manager and conduct initial checks.
  • Correspond with stakeholders and agencies to ensure adequate information sharing.
  • Maintain and check establishment databases, manual filing systems and logs.
  • Collate information on Service Delivery Indicators (SDI).
  • Arrange meetings, preparing paperwork, minutes and action points.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to deal effectively and assertively with staff at all levels.
  • Proficient user of MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical and information collation skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently in a rotational role.

Technical Requirements

  • Complete specific training in the administrative specialism required for the post.
  • If transferring to a Young Persons establishment, complete an assessment to demonstrate suitability to work with young people.

Hours and Working Arrangement

Standard full‑time hours: 37 hours per week (excluding unpaid breaks). Unsocial hours may be required. Hybrid working arrangements are available where business need allows and the role can be undertaken from the UK.
