Overview
Our Court Associates are essential to ensure Magistrates Court hearings run smoothly. They have the confidence to communicate effectively with judges and all participants and the skill to produce accurate and timely court documents.
Responsibilities include liaising with judges, defence, prosecution, media and members of the public, intervening in court when required, maximizing judicial sitting time, taking pleas, producing court orders and recording hearing outcomes accurately and efficiently. You will work within a legal team and support the smooth running of daily Magistrates Courts.
Skills and Experience
- Confident communicator capable of speaking publicly and in court
- Strong customer‑service orientation and teamwork
- Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills
- Ability to complete documents accurately and to deadlines
- IT proficiency with the ability to quickly learn new systems and software
- Resilient, keen to learn and adaptable to digital solutions
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) administers criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. The role is office‑based/court‑based front‑line; regular travel around the Cheshire area will be required.
Standard full‑time working hours are 37 per week. HMCTS welcomes part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing arrangements in line with the MoJ Flexible Working policy.
New recruits to the Civil Service joining the MoJ are expected to start at the minimum band.
