Provide 24‑hour cover at an Approved Premises (AP), including security, monitoring and resident support services. Work as part of a team to maintain safety, manage risk, and ensure residents follow Approved Premises rules, licence conditions and sentence‑plan objectives. Working patterns include annualised hour options (625 or 1250 hours per year, equivalent to one or two 12‑hour shifts a week). Options are also available for full‑time peripatetic, full‑time or part‑time residential work. The role may involve traveling between sites in the local cluster or being based at one AP.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
- Contribute to effective team practice and maintain a positive working environment.
- Communicate key risk issues to colleagues during handover and throughout shifts, and liaise with Offender Managers, Stand‑by Manager and partner agencies such as Police, Health professionals and drug/alcohol services.
- Conduct regular inspections of the building, including cellars and grounds, record occurrences and monitor CCTV equipment.
- Maintain an active presence in the AP, engage pro‑socially with residents and monitor behaviour.
- Engage with high‑risk residents, motivate compliance and manage abusive or aggressive behaviour.
- Observe and report significant changes in resident risk or re‑offending for enforcement or compliance actions.
- Support sentence‑plan objectives by facilitating purposeful activities agreed with AP and Offender Managers.
- Ensure the AP is locked during curfew and confirm wellbeing of all residents overnight.
- Act as first‑line emergency contact during out‑of‑hours.
- Provide accurate risk assessment information to Offender Managers or relevant managers for enforcement.
- Uphold Health and Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work and risk assessments; report incidents to management.
- Carry out fire alarm, curfew and room checks in line with procedures.
- Initiate or schedule room searches when required.
- Pack residents’ possessions as directed.
- Set up or deliver purposeful activities linked to sentence‑plan objectives.
- Supervise residents’ meals.
- Conduct resident inductions.
- Administer medication following prescribed procedures and audit medication sheets.
- Conduct drug and alcohol tests when a resident is suspected to be under influence.
- Provide first aid if a resident is injured or self‑harm.
- Maintain Approved Premises records, data entry and complete incident reports.
- Fulfil safeguarding duties for children in accordance with PS statutory responsibilities.
- Manage visitors, telephone calls and contractor activities under health and safety rules.
- Model pro‑social behavior and challenge anti‑social attitudes.

Experience

Technical Skills
Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English and Maths) or equivalent qualification, with evidence of high‑level numeracy and literacy skills. IT Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Hours of Work (Unsocial Hours) Allowances
37 additional hours per week. Additional payments are made for working unsocial hours.
