Starting salary: £35,875 (for a 39 hour week inc 20% unsocial). Salary options vary by weekly hours and include: 37 hours £33,746; 39 hours £35,875; 41 hours £38,003 per year. All salary figures quoted include applicable allowances.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the public and help make an impact on prisoners' lives
  • Build constructive, positive and professional relationships with prisoners
  • Work as part of a team to keep the prison and staff safe
  • Carry out a variety of roles in a single day, such as peacekeeper, counsellor or teacher
  • Work to shift patterns including evenings, some nights, weekends and public holidays

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Be at least 18 years old on commencement
  • Meet Civil Service nationality requirements
  • Pass medical and fitness assessments; meet eyesight and hearing standards
  • Clear Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC vetting) and provide proof of UK residency for the last 3 years
  • Face tattoos allowed only if not offensive or intimidating; facial tattoos generally not acceptable unless for cultural/religious/medical reasons
  • Provide correct and up-to-date documentation during the application process
  • Meet English language requirements (and Welsh where specified)
