The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

The Hub Manager is responsible for ensuring a robust coaching and mentoring system for new recruits, including onboarding and outreach.

The role reports to the Senior Management Team and focuses on planning, learning and development to strengthen the capability and confidence of new and existing staff, especially new prison officers.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage a buddying scheme, ensuring each new staff member has a named buddy who provides practical help and encouragement during the first three months.
  • Ensure the Hub delivers a fully centralised onboarding service for all new staff, coordinating induction timetables and training with relevant teams.
  • Plan, analyse and embed learning & development opportunities to strengthen staff capability and confidence.
  • Coordinate the induction and training of new recruits, liaising with teams to ensure processes are in place and deadlines are met.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on mentoring schemes, ensuring processes are completed, sanitized and disclosed in line with policy.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the mentoring and buddying schemes, reviewing and evaluating outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new staff, providing advice, preparing them for their role and responding to queries.
  • Arrange welcome activities for new colleagues on their first day and after early residential foundation training.
  • Collaborate with the People Hub and Business Hub to process and confirm all new recruit tasks (uniforms, epaulettes, ID cards, IT setup, etc.).
  • Manage the line‑management responsibilities of the Hub, including staff performance, development, annual appraisals and sickness absence management.
  • Maintain timely communication with all staff and ensure that new recruits feel supported and valued.

Qualifications

  • Strong user of MS Word and MS Excel with excellent information collation and analysis skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and assertively with staff at all levels.
  • Fluency in spoken English (and Welsh where required).
  • DBS Standard level security check.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring or learning & development within a challenging environment is highly desirable.
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience in a custodial or related setting is an advantage.
