HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. About your role
Birmingham Crown Court sits within HMCTS’ Midlands region in the West Midlands and Warwickshire Crime Cluster, supported by the Operations Manager and Court Delivery Managers. Birmingham Crown Court forms part of HMCTS’ West Midlands Crime Region and is supported by an established leadership structure, including the Operations Manager and Court Delivery Managers. We are currently recruiting two Court Delivery Managers (HEO) who will jointly lead and manage a large Court Clerk team based at Birmingham Crown Court. These two posts have shared core responsibilities, but each also carries a distinct area of focus:
- Role 1 – Operational Compliance Lead: This post includes regional responsibility for leading key operational compliance activity across the West Midlands Crime Region. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong familiarity with compliance‑driven processes and will oversee the effective implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of compliance standards across the region.
- Role 2 – Court Clerk Team Operations Lead: This post focuses on the day‑to‑day management of the Court Clerk team, ensuring the smooth delivery of daily court operations. The successful candidate will manage workflow, support clerks with immediate operational needs, and maintain high-quality service delivery in a fast‑paced environment.
Across both posts, the successful candidates will play a vital role in ensuring the effective running of Birmingham Crown Court. They will lead and develop the Court Clerk team, support the Operations Manager to meet operational requirements, contribute to regional performance objectives, and deliver a consistent, professional and customer‑focused service. You’re able to maintain positive and effective working relationships with the judiciary, supporting agencies, voluntary and user groups and strive for continuous improvement to improve operational efficiency, working with agencies to improve service levels. You’re familiar with work environments that are process and compliance driven and able to constructively manage complaints and complete corrective actions within set timescales. You understand the importance of Health and Safety, IT/Workstation compliance and identifying and escalating any Court facilities issues to HMCTS Estates teams.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy. Applications for part-time working would be considered however due to the nature of the role the minimum hours would be 32 hours per week over 5 days.
