Working at the direction of the Head of Operational Function, the post holder will be deployed to a variety of roles to provide strategic support. The role involves supporting the Head of LDU Cluster in managing and leading within the National Probation Service (NPS) Local Delivery Unit (LDU). The post holder will represent the Head of LDU Cluster with external agencies/stakeholders and staff, adhering to all policies regarding sensitive/confidential information. Participation in out-of-hours on-call rota may be required.

The Senior Operational Support Manager may undertake any combination of duties as directed by the Head of Operational Function, including:

  1. Leading on caseload segmentation issues such as Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, and Integrated Offender Management.
  2. Providing operational support to the Head of Cluster within relevant Probation Instruction criteria and rules, such as Recall and High Risk of Serious Harm Case Transfers.
  3. Supporting the management of grievances, discipline, capability, and complaints within the cluster.
  4. Overseeing the professional development of cluster staff and developing the Cluster Training Needs Analysis.
  5. Ensuring effective recruitment and induction of employees within the cluster.
  6. Acting as cluster lead for performance, quality, audits, and inspections.
  7. Supporting reviews and delivery of action plans for cases such as Domestic Homicides and Serious Case Reviews.
  8. Managing the Business Manager and administrative support functions.
  9. Representing the NPS in local strategic partnerships and wider frameworks, including participation in Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
  10. Making decisions and providing advice in the absence of the Head of LDU Cluster, including decisions on offender management such as recall to prison.
  11. Managing complaints within the cluster and leading complaint resolution when necessary.
  12. Leading specific projects on divisional or cluster priorities, including Equality and Diversity, Reward and Recognition.
  13. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and managing estates, buildings, and maintenance activities.
  14. Demonstrating pro-social modelling skills and safeguarding duties in line with statutory responsibilities.
  15. Working within the aims and values of NPS and HMPPS, with flexibility for hybrid working arrangements.

The role involves standard full-time hours (37 hours/week), with consideration for part-time, flexible, and job-sharing patterns.
