Working at the direction of the Head of Operational Function, the post holder will be deployed to various roles to provide strategic support within the National Probation Service (NPS). The role involves managing and leading within the Local Delivery Unit (LDU) and representing the LDU Cluster externally. The post holder must adhere to policies regarding sensitive/confidential information and may participate in out-of-hours on-call duties.

The Senior Operational Support Manager may undertake duties as directed by the Head of Operational Function, including:

  1. Leading on caseload segmentation issues such as Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, and Integrated Offender Management.
  2. Providing operational support within relevant Probation Instruction criteria, such as Recall and High-Risk Case Transfers.
  3. Supporting disciplinary, grievance, capability, and complaints processes.
  4. Overseeing professional development and training needs analysis for cluster staff.
  5. Managing recruitment, induction, performance, audits, and inspections within the cluster.
  6. Supporting reviews and action plan delivery for cases like Domestic Homicides and Serious Case Reviews.
  7. Managing the Business Manager and administrative support functions.
  8. Representing NPS in local strategic partnerships and multi-agency arrangements, including chairing MAPPA level 3 meetings.
  9. Making decisions in the absence of the Head of LDU Cluster, including offender recall authorizations.
  10. Handling complaints and leading specific projects on equality, diversity, and recognition.
  11. Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and managing estate and building maintenance.
  12. Demonstrating pro-social behavior and safeguarding duties.
  13. Working within the aims and values of NPS and HMPPS, with flexible hybrid working arrangements discussed and agreed upon.

The role involves working at a managerial level with staff, monitoring performance, managing budgets, and working with key stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate experience in these areas and be capable of producing high-quality reports.
