The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.
As a member of the investigations team, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload and conducting investigations into concerns raised about attorneys’ behaviour and matters of capacity.
You will gather evidence, collaborate with colleagues, and produce timely, thorough, and objective reports for the Public Guardian and courts, making appropriate recommendations and implementing them.
Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations into attorneys exercising powers under registered LPA & EPA following internal or external concerns.
- Liaise with attorneys and third parties to gather information and evidence, proving or disproving allegations.
- Implement safeguarding actions and refer matters to police, local authorities or other agencies when required.
- Prepare accurate and thorough reports for the Public Guardian and the Court of Protection, including clear recommendations.
- Produce witness statements for the Court of Protection and respond to court directives, attending hearings when necessary.
- Monitor performance against key milestones, re‑assessing workloads and priorities to maintain quality and timeliness.
- Collaborate with colleagues across all OPG sites, participating in working groups and committees to improve practices.
- Coach and provide guidance to junior team members to ensure accurate and prompt investigations.
- Maintain awareness of changes to the Mental Capacity Act, Mo J policies and internal OPG policies, adjusting practice accordingly.
- Embed continuous improvement behaviours and leadership culture within OPG.
Qualifications
- Ability to interpret and comprehend financial evidence to make informed decisions.
- Experience producing high‑quality written reports containing analysis, conclusions and recommendations.
- Effective time‑management and organisational skills to meet conflicting deadlines.
- Self‑directed work style with a commitment to high‑quality performance.
- Strong written, telephone and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office products.
- Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Code of Practice (desirable).
- Investigative experience (desirable).
- Working Arrangements
- Hybrid working is offered with a minimum of 60% office presence, subject to site availability.
- Base location will be either Birmingham (Victoria Square House) or Nottingham (Embankment House).
