Responsibilities:
- Maintain safety and security within the prison.
- Protect the public by preventing escapes and maintaining order.
- Engage with prisoners to support positive change and rehabilitation.
- Deliver teaching or therapeutic programmes where required.
- Work in shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years old.
- Meet the Civil Service nationality requirements.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment suitable for a physically demanding job.
- Meet the required eyesight standard with or without corrective lenses.
- Have the right to work in the UK; a skilled worker visa may be available but is not guaranteed.
- Allowed to have visible tattoos provided they are not offensive, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos are generally not acceptable.
Salary:
- For a 39-hour week (including 20% unsocial) the starting salary is £35,875 per year.
- 37 hours a week: £33,746
- 39 hours a week: £35,875
- 41 hours a week: £38,003
