Band A – Head of Housing Support Services

This is an exciting new, permanent senior leadership role to head up the new East of England Housing Support Services for offenders, pre and post release from prison and /or under statutory Community Supervision. This service has recently transferred from contracted, to in house provision, initially on a 3-year pilot basis. At the operational level, it currently works alongside our existing Community Accommodation Schemes ((CAS1, 2 and 3) and other rehabilitative pathways to meet the needs of our people in our care e.g. around dependency & recovery, personal wellbeing and money management. It will work very closely and collaboratively the new contracted, Community Support services which are due to go live from Summer 2027 and will deliver rehabilitative services on an holistic basis. This will include increasing the amount of pre-release activity to people in custody in our region in relation to their housing needs, regardless of the area to which they intend to return.

At the strategic level, this is an excellent opportunity to engage more comprehensively and proactively with our key stakeholders e.g. the 47 local authorities within our region. Internally, we can also start to increase our strategic alignment with the different housing services available to People on Probation e.g. our Community Accommodation Schemes, our prison based Strategic Housing Specialists and our Homelessness Prevention Team. In this connection, a decision has recently been made that the postholder will also line manage the Head of our Homelessness Prevention team, which fundamentally focusses on the risk of harm assessment and management of offenders in community accommodation. Since this is integral to this team, it would be desirable (but not essential) for the postholder to be a registered Probation Practitioner.
