Responsibilities:

  • Draft responses to all forms of parliamentary questions.
  • Respond to ministerial correspondence.
  • Act as the key information liaison officer (KILO) and handle Freedom of Information Act enquiries and related processes.
  • Support the drafting of briefings including ministerial, Justice Oral, Public Accounts, Justice Select Committee and Senior Leader briefings.
  • Manage responses to official correspondence.
  • Manage the PSD Enquiries email inbox.
  • Coordinate the delivery of meetings with internal and external stakeholders such as Trade Unions, NHS England, and follow‑up actions.
  • Support the development of a Central Hub to improve coordination between different parts of the Agency.
  • Play a role in the strategic join‑up across prison supply, including cross‑cutting processes such as affordability, planning and external engagement.
  • Coordinate responses on behalf of the directorate for IMB and HMIP reports.
  • Coordinate information flows across teams to ensure senior leaders receive coherent and timely strategic advice and high‑quality briefing notes.
  • Lead a small strategic workstream or thematic area.
  • Gather and review departmental and cross‑government policy documents, producing clear summaries to be stored and shared with the Strategy Team to support informed decision making.

Working Arrangements:

The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows. The role is based in the UK and may involve working from the applicant’s base location, different MoJ sites and/or from home. Hybrid working will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate and is subject to regular review.

Salary and Benefits:

National salary: £39,803 – £43,783. London salary: £42,817 – £48,824, dependent on base location. The holiday year runs from 1 March. Leave entitlements are calculated on a pro‑rata basis, expressed in hours or days as appropriate. Bank, public and privilege holidays: 9 days (66 hours 36 minutes). The Civil Service offers optional pension schemes to choose from. The position invites work‑life balance arrangements and is eligible for a season‑ticket advance after two months of service. Additional benefits may include childcare vouchers and career development programmes.

Eligibility:

All candidates are subject to security and identity checks before taking up post. All external candidates are subject to six‑month probation; internal candidates are subject to probation if they have not already served a probationary period within HMPPS.
