Who we are looking for
This opportunity would be particularly well suited to a university student or recent graduate studying communications, journalism, media, marketing, design, film, photography, creative industries or a related subject.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- strong written and visual communication skills;

- an ability to make complex information accessible and engaging;
- good organisation and the ability to deliver to deadlines;
- confidence taking ownership of their own work;

Formal professional experience is not essential. Relevant experience could come from your studies, student societies, volunteering, placements, freelance work, social media or personal creative projects.
What you will get from the Academy
During the six-month internship you will receive hands-on experience, mentoring and structured development, while working alongside colleagues across AI, product, engineering, adoption and engagement.
You will have the opportunity to develop your creative and AI skills, build a network across government and contribute to the responsible adoption of AI across justice.

The role can be undertaken full-time or part-time, including alongside university study where an appropriate working pattern can be agreed.
Regular attendance at our London office will be required to work with the team, capture content, support events and benefit from hands-on mentoring and development.
How to Apply
Candidates must submit a CV and Personal Statement.
Your Statement of Suitability should explain why you are interested in the role and demonstrate how your skills meet the essential criteria. We would particularly like you to reference one or two examples of creative work you are proud of, explaining the audience, your approach and your contribution.
Examples can come from university, work, volunteering, student societies, social media, freelance or personal projects. You may include links to examples of your work.
Interview
The recruitment process has two stages.
Stage one – Technical assessment (online)
Candidates who are successful at sift will be invited to a 30-minute presentation based technical assessment.
The exercise will be shared 7 days before the interview. The presentation will be based on a creative communications brief relevant to the work of the Justice AI Unit. We will assess your ideas, understanding of the audience, creative judgement and ability to communicate clearly rather than the professional polish of the presentation.
Stage two – Behaviour & Strengths interview (face to face)
A panel interview lasting up to 45 minutes, assessing you against two Civil Service strengths and the following Civil Service behaviours at HEO level:
- Communicating and Influencing
- Delivering at Pace
- Working Together

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.

All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).
For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
