Our Operational Support Officers deliver excellent customer service and essential administrative support across HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). Working in a mix of office and courtroom settings, you will progress court and tribunal cases, coordinate hearings, and assist users—including members of the judiciary, legal professionals and the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare papers and files for court, tribunal hearings and meetings, accurately handling sensitive information.
- Create and update digital records, interpreting court file requirements and ensuring information is correctly captured.
- Communicate with the public, the judiciary and other court users, and representatives from other agencies and organisations.
- Support the smooth running of court proceedings, including preparing court and hearing rooms and ensuring courts operate efficiently.
- Act as the initial point of contact for all court users, meeting members of the public—especially vulnerable witnesses and their legal representatives.
Working Arrangements
Standard full‑time hours are 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. HMCTS also accepts suitable part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing arrangements subject to business needs and the MoJ Flexible Working policy. The role is strictly court‑based and does not allow hybrid working.

- Effective communication and organisational abilities, confident in person, telephone, digital and written communication.
