Overview of Legal Officer roles based in the First-tier Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chamber (IAC) team in Birmingham. The post is full time, part time or job share with flexible working patterns where the demands of the role and business needs allow.
Location: Birmingham Civil Justice Centre, 33 Bull Street, Birmingham, B4 6DS. This is an office-based position with potential non-contractual hybrid working where business needs allow. A minimum of 60% of working time in an office is expected.
Responsibilities:
- Support the effective administration of Tribunals business on a national scale by undertaking complex case work and assessment activity to determine how best to advance caseloads and remove barriers to timely case progression.
- Work independently with a wider team to make informed decisions on processing appeals to improve access to justice.
- Make case management decisions under delegated judicial powers and liaise with key stakeholders and HMCTS colleagues to ensure effective administration of justice.

Qualifications and experience:
- A law degree or equivalent technical experience is desirable.
- The equivalent experience is defined as: “The demonstration of a transferable decision-making aptitude, working within a set framework or guidance and previous precedents, under supervision.”
- Experience of working with tribunals or in a justice/system administration context is advantageous.
