Reducing Reoffending Senior Policy Advisor
The Probation and Reducing Reoffending Directorate is recruiting permanent Senior Policy Advisers to drive improvements to rehabilitation and reduce reoffending across the criminal justice system.

Hybrid working model: a balance between remote work and time spent at the base location, with a minimum of 60 % of work time in an office, subject to local capacity.
Responsibilities
- Lead the co‑coordination of a cross‑government approach to reducing reoffending, engaging working‑level and senior colleagues across government, including Ministers.
- Develop a set of priorities for a cross‑government approach to reducing reoffending, including Early Intervention and Diversion, Key Cohorts and partnership with wider division teams.
- Work with analytical and data colleagues to understand and utilise data and evidence to develop strategy, identify gaps and support innovative data and digital approaches.
- Develop detailed knowledge and ownership of your policy areas, delivering evidence‑based options, policies or decisions that achieve strategic objectives.
- Produce briefings and advice for Ministers and senior leaders, respond to parliamentary correspondence and report on progress against milestones.
- Build and maintain relationships with finance, analytical colleagues, operational partners and external stakeholders to bring about lasting change.
- Maintain flexibility across the unit or directorate, supporting priorities as required.
- Contribute to corporate workstreams within the directorate.
Skills and Experience
- Experience of setting direction and supporting delivery of complex programmes using evidence to inform policy development, with governance, planning and risk management.
- Experience of influencing and managing stakeholders at different levels and organisations, briefing leaders and decision makers verbally and in writing.
- Confidence in working independently to scope, develop and drive work forward across a range of priorities.
- Ability to adapt to new ideas and programmes, responding flexibly to new priorities.
- Experience working in the criminal justice field or related services.
- Experience in a policy environment.
