The Legal and Policy Hub requires a Lead for Litigation to manage the Litigation Team, overseeing public and private law claims against the Parole Board. The role reports to the Head of Legal and Policy and manages a Litigation Paralegal.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Litigation Team and oversee the Litigation Inbox.
- Allocate and manage member queries and pre‑action letters.
- Assist with complex litigation queries and requests for disclosure of decisions.
- Manage a caseload of private law claims with the Government Legal Department.
- Support the Head of Legal and Policy and Director of Legal and Policy with legal queries and judicial review caseload.
- Assist in developing policy and guidance.
- Manage and respond to requests for transcripts of oral hearings.
- Assist with financial provisions relating to compensation claims.
- Oversee the Litigation Paralegal, ensuring HR processes, performance and development.
- Facilitate individual and team performance and development.
- Undertake projects and lead on delivery of priorities.
- Model leadership, management and professional behaviours in line with the Parole Board’s vision and values.
- Contribute to the Business Plan, Hub strategies, and organisational policies.
- Attend national and regional meetings and events, including occasional travel.
- Represent team interests at operational and strategic meetings.
- Conduct weekly meetings with the Litigation Team.
- Deal with escalated complex queries and allocate tasks.
- Attend Senior Leadership Team meetings as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- Practising certificate (or equivalent) to practise as solicitor, barrister or cilex lawyer.
- Experience communicating with internal and external audiences, relaying complex information in a clear format.
- Excellent analytical skills to understand complex legislation and technical information.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, adaptable to change.
- Skills in building working relationships and networks with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to interpret legislation and policy documents.
- Experience using Microsoft programmes.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- Previous working experience in legal work, such as paralegal, legal or litigation officer.
- Any professional qualification related to law.
