Former, qualified senior probation officers who have left the Civil Service within the last five years are invited to return to the Probation Service. The scheme offers a fast‑track return without the usual application, interview or re‑training requirements.

Eligibility

  • Former qualified senior probation officers who left the Civil Service within five years.
  • Completed the probationary period and training before leaving.

Working arrangements and contract

  • Full‑time or part‑time, permanent or temporary (three, six or nine months).
  • Temporary contracts may be extended up to two years if required.
  • Contract terms are flexible and vacancies are offered within a 60‑minute commute of the applicant’s home location.

Pre‑employment checks

Successful candidates must pass Occupational Health Review, Enhanced Level 2 security vetting including DBS Enhanced and, where required, Non‑Police Personnel Vetting Level 2.

Training

An individualised training needs analysis will be carried out upon return to identify completed training and schedule any additional training required.

Salary

£44,100 + £4,250 London allowance (London, Staines and Watford base locations). Higher starting salaries may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.

Benefits

As a temporary member of staff you receive the full range of Civil Service benefits (except permanent tenure), automatic pension enrolment with an opt‑out option, and 25 days’ leave per annum pro rata.
