Probation Services Officer (PSO) based in Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford. The role involves supporting offenders on probation before and after sentence, managing risk, and facilitating their successful reintegration into the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of offenders, assessing and monitoring risk, progress and compliance with obligations.
- Produce clear, accurate case reports and risk assessments within tight deadlines.
- Work closely with courts, local agencies and the prison team to ensure continuous support for offenders.
- Provide practical advice on housing, employment, and other support services to enable offenders to lead lawful lives.
- Attend community meetings, case discussions and relevant court hearings as required.
- Ensure all statutory duties and service procedures are followed, maintaining professional judgement throughout.
Qualifications & Experience
- Empathy, patience and resilience – ability to work with people who have social or personal difficulties.
- Good written communication skills; must produce clear reports within set deadlines.
- Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds is highly valued.
- No degree is required; personal qualities and relevant experience are the priority.
Working Pattern & Salary
- Full-time, 37 hours per week (9:00‑17:00 Monday‑Friday; some duties may require working until 19:00 one night per week).
- Starting salary of £28,064, with annual progression via the Competency Based Framework (CBF) and alignment to Civil Service pay guidance.
