The Public Protection Casework Section (PPCS) is responsible for the management of the parole process and the recall of offenders to custody. This is a busy, demanding and challenging leadership role where the post-holder will have ultimate accountability for a critical HMPPS‑wide database that supports fully electronic case‑working. The role involves overseeing the production of accurate statistical information for both external publication and internal use, working closely with the Senior Statistician. Additionally, the post-holder will lead work with third‑party suppliers and external stakeholders for strategic development and operational changes.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management of up to 30 staff (Band 3 – Band 7) and direct‑line management of 3 Band 7 members.
- Hold ultimate accountability for the critical HMPPS‑wide database that supports fully electronic case‑working.
- Lead work with third‑party suppliers and external stakeholders for strategic development and operational changes.
- Oversee the production of accurate statistical information for external publication and internal use, working closely with the Senior Statistician.
Working Arrangements:
The MoJ offers a hybrid working arrangement where business need allows. This is an informal, non‑contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and/or from home. Hybrid working does not suit everyone's circumstances and arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s). For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre‑employment checks. Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week excluding breaks which are unpaid. HMPPS welcomes part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing working patterns where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. All applications for part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the HMPPS' Flexible Working policy. If you are a current NPS employee, this vacancy may be available on a loan basis for up to 2 years. Applications are invited from suitable qualified staff. The loan/secondment is subject to the approval of the selected candidate's Business Unit, which should be obtained before confirmation of appointment.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following security and identity checks prior to taking up the post. External candidates will be subject to a 6‑month probation. Internal candidates with no prior probation period within HMPPS will also be subject to probation.

- Annual leave: The holiday year runs from 1 March. If you work a non‑standard work pattern your leave entitlement may be expressed in either hours or days as appropriate. Leave entitlement is calculated on a pro‑rata basis and you will be advised of your actual entitlement on appointment.
