Overview
The Senior Business Support & Casework Officer (HEO) works within the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) of the Judicial Office (JO), supporting the Lord Chancellor and Lady Chief Justice in matters of judicial discipline and complaints. The role involves managing a caseload of complaints, supervising staff, and contributing to projects that support JCIO and the broader Judicial Office objectives.
Role & Responsibilities
- Oversee business support functions, including reporting to the Judicial Office finance team on expenditure against budget and leading on reasonable adjustment requests.
- Line manage two EO Hybrid Business Support Caseworkers and one EO Caseworker, reviewing draft correspondence and providing guidance.
- Carry out senior level casework on complaints, proactively managing your own caseload and collaborating with other managers to ensure delivery of the team’s work.
- Show leadership in the team and promote positivity and professionalism.
- Work to JCIO internal KPIs, keeping all parties updated throughout the process.
- Draft advice on complaints for the Lord Chancellor and Lady Chief Justice.
- Produce statistical reports about performance against targets.
- Support senior casework managers with a range of work when needed.
- Lead or contribute to projects which support delivery of the JCIO business plan.
Key Requirements
- Strong leadership, willing to actively contribute to team meetings and management discussions.
- Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail.
- Experience of drafting to a high standard.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and reprioritise to meet competing demands.
- Willingness to proactively acquire knowledge of the judicial disciplinary system.
- Experience working with Microsoft systems, including co‑pilot.
- Finance experience such as budget planning, purchase orders, travel and expense claims.
- Basic knowledge of the judicial system.
- Experience of drafting for senior judges and/or senior officials.
- Experience of managing reasonable adjustment requests.
- Understanding of data handling, including SAR requests and ministerial correspondence.
