Overview

The Security and Information Directorate (SID) is part of the Service Transformation Group (STG). The Group oversees the building of a strategic vision for modernising and digitising legacy systems, generating a coordinated plan across the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and its agencies for transformation, and tracking delivery of this transformation. Security and information management are fundamental building blocks of enabling the department to deliver. We have highly skilled experts working collaboratively with the department, Government Security Group, Government Knowledge and Information Management profession and other partners to enable the whole of the MoJ to function securely, lawfully and transparently. We identify, manage, and mitigate MoJ's security, data protection and information risks, and provide assurance against those risks. We’re also home to the Counter Fraud Centre of Expertise. Part of our mission is to up-skill the department so that security becomes second nature to our people and partners.

The Digital Information & Records Management Team within the Information Services Division (ISD) supports the MoJ by providing best‑practice policy/guidance and fit‑for‑purpose records management tools to manage digital information throughout its lifecycle. This role supports MoJ staff by providing clear, practical advice based on policies, legal obligations and industry standards. The role generally reports to a senior manager within the team at HEO or SEO level and may involve supervising others or line‑management responsibilities in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement procedures to support best practice digital information and records management, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain, organise and provide access to digital repositories (e.g., SharePoint, MoJ's Digital Archive), ensuring information is structured, accurate and retrievable.
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff on best practice information management including lifecycle management, retention and disposal and storage.
  • Assist with digital records end‑of‑lifecycle reviews including archiving, and deletion processes in line with policy and process.
  • Support responses to information requests such as FOIs and Public Inquiries by identifying and retrieving relevant digital information.
  • Lead activities relating to training, engagement and upskilling staff to help embed a strong information management culture across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders both internally and externally to ensure governance, compliance and controls are implemented across the organisation.
  • Assist with information management continuous improvement, supporting digital transformation projects as required.

Hybrid Working

The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows. Candidates are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Hybrid working will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and reviewed regularly. The role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

Salary

The national salary range is £29,303 – £31,061. The London salary range is £33,551 – £35,564. Salary will depend on base location.
