About Us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) administers criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales.

Your Role

Tribunals are specialist courts that handle a variety of cases. Assist the tribunal system by performing general administrative duties to progress cases or support other functions within HMCTS.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and book travel, accommodation and hotel arrangements.
  • Manage diaries, including the E‑judiciary diary.
  • Update the Outstanding Judgments spreadsheet on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinate training events: organise dates, venues, liaise with judges and Non‑Legal Members, and update OneNote records.
  • Collate papers and open files when the Regional Employment Judge attends a meeting.
  • Prepare and type minutes of meetings such as User Group Meetings.
  • Maintain and update records for judicial review files, new fee‑paid employment judges, and appointments of Non‑Legal Members.
  • Notify the President’s Office regarding special and sick leave; complete and send required forms to HQ.
  • Record and log complaints, ensuring appropriate correspondence is filed.
  • Schedule appraisal dates and keep the appraisal database current.
  • Arrange security badges/building passes for new fee‑paid employment judges.
  • Provide general support to salaried judges as needed.
  • Assist with Welsh‑Language hearing records for the Wales Support Unit.
  • Act as first point of contact for Journalists/Other Hires (JoHs), handling phone and email enquiries.
  • Arrange meetings – User Group Meetings, Litigant‑in‑Person working parties, WETMA – and support event logistics.
  • Work effectively with a colleague in a job‑share arrangement if required.
  • Update annual leave records and manage leave requests.
  • Maintain a record of appointments, extensions, and valedictory letters for Non‑Legal Members.
  • Prepare syndicate group lists and coordinate support at events.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Excellent customer‑service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong administrative experience, including diary management, filing, and record keeping.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic OneNote usage.
  • Typing speed and accuracy, including audio typing preferred.
  • Attention to detail, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience working in a public‑sector or court environment is desirable.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, including in a job share.

Working Arrangements

Full‑time standard of 37 hours per week; part‑time, flexible and job‑share options available in accordance with the MoJ Flexible Working policy. Primary base location: Wales Employment Tribunal, 3rd Floor, Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, Fitzalan Place, Cardiff CF24 0RZ.

Skilled Worker Visa

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship under current immigration rules unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously since before 22 July 2025. Applicants must ensure they have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the UK.

Applicants will be assessed using a Statement of Suitability, evaluating customer service, administrative, IT and organisational skills.
