Overview
The Ministry of Justice Supply and Logistics area is part of Commercial and includes Fleet Engineering Services, the National Distribution Centre (NDC) and Transport Unit. The Team Leader position supports the Warehouse Manager in delivering an efficient and cost‑effective warehousing and distribution service across the national prison estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out all aspects of people management including performance management.
- Manage the team in goods in and out; ensure records and trackers are updated as required.
- Investigate customer complaints, receipts, rejects and returns for the warehouse manager.
- Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments for the warehouse.
- Provide support to the warehouse manager for stock checks and inventory checking.
- Ensure and manage property consolidation for HMPPS.
- Accident reporting and report hazards.
- Induct new team members and maintain training plans and records.
- Ensure policies, procedures and practices are in place as required.
- Manage achievement of performance targets and standards within the work area, verifying and signing off documentation as appropriate.
- Analyse data and produce accurate management information, support the warehouse manager.
- Act as first point of contact for relevant external stakeholders.
- Support the Warehouse Manager in creating a safe working environment for staff, visitors and contractors by adhering to health and safety legislation, ensuring SSOW and risk assessments are followed, and reporting incidents.
- Manage a team that operates mechanical handling equipment – ensure training, qualification and licence requirements are met and maintained.
Essential Criteria
- Team leader/Management/supervisory experience.
- Line manager experience – leading teams of 6–15+ staff, delegation, coaching, performance feedback and conflict resolution.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills – Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Warehouse management systems proficiency – training will be provided.
- Health and safety awareness and compliance.
- Coordinate teams, liaise with other departments or clients, and liaise with external stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
- First Aid, Fire Marshal, IOSH certifications – training will be provided if required.
- Training experience.
