Community Payback Supervisors supervise work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. The role involves supporting offenders on their journey, leading small teams to complete unpaid work hours and ensuring all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability. It may include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment, and requires covering a weekend day and, at times, evenings.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and motivate teams of offenders to complete a range of manual tasks (e.g., clearing overgrowth, restoring community facilities, planting trees, laying flowerbeds, litter picking, graffiti removal).
- Plan and manage work placements, ensuring tasks are carried out safely and effectively.
- Coordinate with other HMPPS staff and local authorities to facilitate work sites and resources.
- Maintain accurate records of work hours, workplace incidents and progress reports.
- Drive service vehicles where required, complying with all transport regulations.
- Provide training, guidance and good practice demonstrations to service users.
- Work frequent weekends and occasional evenings as part of the standard working pattern.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Right to work in the UK and eligibility under Civil Service nationality rules.
- Full UK Manual driving licence (automatic licences are not acceptable).
- Experience in supervising group settings or community work is desirable.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Arrangements
Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week (excluding unpaid breaks). The role offers flexible arrangements including part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing options, and a hybrid working model where business needs allow. Working hours will include weekends and may involve evenings.
