Overview
This role offers strategic HR partnership to senior leaders in HM Prison & Probation (HMPPS) at HMP Bristol. You will support senior management, deliver people priorities and help shape staff engagement and performance. The role is based in Bristol (19 Cambridge Road, Bristol, BS7 8PS) and requires occasional travel across the South West region.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted HR partner to the Governor and Senior Management Team at HMP Bristol, facilitating access to central HR services and driving people initiatives.
- Lead on regional people strategy for prison and probation customer groups within the South West.
- Drive change management for re‑organisation, redeployment and other change events, supporting the business with people‑centric implementation.
- Partner on resourcing & retention, working with finance to forecast workforce needs and intervene on vacancies.
- Support leadership capability development, learning interventions and management coaching.
- Manage attendance, performance, conduct and grievance issues, ensuring compliance and timely action.
- Deliver staff engagement evidence from the Civil Service People Survey and other data to design effective programmes.
- Champion diversity, inclusion and well‑being across the organization, accessing relevant services.

Qualifications & Experience
- HR qualification (Chartered MCIPD or equivalent) or willingness to pursue it.
- Minimum of 4 years generalist HR experience, preferably within the UK public sector.
- Evidence of delivering HR plans, coaching leaders and driving people‑centric change.
- Strong analytical skills using HR data to support evidence‑based decisions.
- Excellent communication, influence and relationship‑management skills.
- Basic knowledge of Civil Service recruitment principles and HR frameworks.
- Willingness to travel across the South West region as required.
Delivery Eligibility
Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance required.
