Role Overview
Operational Support Officers provide excellent customer service and administrative support to court and tribunal users, judiciary, and HMCTS management.
The role involves progressing cases through the court/tribunal system, preparing documents, maintaining digital records, and supporting the smooth running of court proceedings.
Responsibilities
- Progress cases through the court/tribunal system and assist users, judiciary and legal professionals.
- Prepare and file documents for hearings, meetings and tribunals, handling sensitive information with accuracy.
- Create, update and manage digital records and court files.
- Communicate with the public, judiciary, other court users and external agencies.
- Prepare court/hearing rooms and ensure proceedings run efficiently.
- Act as the first point of contact for court users, including vulnerable witnesses and legal representatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Basic customer service skills in a customer‑facing environment.
- Good digital and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communication and organisational skills; confident in person, over the phone, digitally and written.
- Resilience, empathy and ability to handle sensitive information.
- Team player able to work collaboratively and flexibly towards HMCTS objectives.
- Legal right to work in the UK and be a citizen of the UK, EU, or EEA if applicable.
- Visa & Eligibility
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules.
Candidates must have held a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025, or otherwise meet the UK immigration rules and transitional provisions.
Successful applicants must maintain legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and the United Kingdom.
- Working Arrangements & Hours
- Hybrid working: minimum 60% of time in office, subject to local estate capacity.
- Standard full‑time: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
- Part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing options are considered; minimum 22 hours per week over three days.
- Employees based at nearest viable office to home postcode, on the respective pay scale.
