Full Time, Part Time, Job Share, Flexible Working – the Bailiff role is available for 4 positions across the North East region.

About the role

As a Bailiff, you will work on the front line of the UK Justice System, visiting people in their homes and businesses to enforce court orders. You must communicate calmly, empathise with court users, and manage emotionally charged situations with confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Visit courts, homes and businesses to enforce court orders.
  • Explain visit purpose and available options to customers in a respectful manner.
  • Demonstrate empathy and non‑judgmental support while delivering on the role.
  • Plan and adapt daily workload, responding to short‑notice changes.
  • Use IT and court case management systems to record activities.
  • Maintain personal and vehicle safety, using a personal car or a lease car after the probation period.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence entitled to drive permanently.
  • Proficient with IT and willingness to undergo training on court systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult conversations and make effective decisions.

Working Arrangements

Standard full‑time hours are 37 per week. Part‑time (minimum 30 hours over 4 days), flexible and job‑sharing options are available where the role demands are met.

  • Bradford Combined Court, Exchange Square, Drake St, Bradford, BD1 1JA (1.6 posts)
  • Huddersfield County Court, Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 2RR (1 post)
  • Leeds Combined Court, 1 Oxford Row, Leeds, LS1 3BG (1 post)
